This 8-day tour will take you to the region of Saint-Louis, the former capital of West Africa, known for its exceptional heritage, the variety of its landscapes, its art of living. A stay made of meetings and exchanges, with friendly locals.

 

Program

Day 1: Blaise Diagne International Airport – Thiès

Welcome at Blaise Diagne International Airport. Transfer to Thiès. Dinner (not included) and overnight at your hotel.

 

 

Day 2: Thiès – Lompoul Desert

Breakfast. Departure for a visit to the Maam Samba Arts and Crafts Center in Ndem, a small village located 100 km from Thiès. This center brings together various craft workshops: textiles (clothing, accessories and furniture), dyeing (chemical and natural), weaving, embroidery, manual spinning of organic cotton, leather, wood, metal, pottery, basketry, calabash, jewelry…

Continue to Lompoul considered the most beautiful desert in Senegal. Dunes 40 to 50 meters high for kilometers around. Traditional lunch in a Senegalese family. Possibility to go then to the beach), then departure for the desert in the red and yellow dunes with evening over a wood fire with djembe. Dinner and overnight in Moorish tents.

 

 

Day 3: Lompoul – Saint-Louis

Breakfast in the desert and ride on camels. Departure to Saint-Louis, the former capital of West Africa. Arrival and installation at your hotel. Lunch then in the afternoon, meet for the Gnu Dém Djaba.

This activity is offered with the assistance of Penda Fall who will tell you the story of the beautiful Saint Louisians while going to the market, walking the streets. The Gnu Dém Djaba will allow you to meet those who make the elegance and good taste of Saint-Louis. You will pass by Place Faidherbe instead of Takussanu Ndar to go to the market to buy beautiful wax fabrics, before going to the tailor to have an elegant or casual outfit made for you. The time to take your measurements, taste a tea and talk about the cloth (you will have to wait 48 hours before you put on your outfit). Return to the hotel. Dinner and an overnight stay at your hotel.

 

 

Day 4: Saint-Louis – Djoudj Park – Saint-Louis

Breakfast and departure for the Parc du Djoudj, the 3rd largest bird reserve in the world. Boarding a pirogue to follow the arm of the river to the resting place of birds where thousands of migratory species gather for their reproduction. With a little luck, you will also be able to observe mammals such as jackals, monkeys, hyenas and gazelles and several varieties of reptiles (pythons or crocodiles).

Then picnic in the Savoigne dunes then continue to Gaston Berger University in Saint-Louis. where you can have an aperitif with Mouhamed, a young native of Saint-Louis and several of his friends. You will share the afternoon around local juices, tea … while discussing different themes (Environment and Sustainable Development – Sport and Education – Social and others …). Return to the hotel. Dinner and overnight.

Note: the Djoudj reserve will be replaced by a mussel (from May to October) and the university will also be replaced by the Mouhamed house (from August to November).

 

 

Day 5: Saint-Louis

Breakfast. Meet at the reception of your hotel and depart for a glass painting workshop at Vito. Feathers in hand, you will participate in his workshop to be able to understand how this moment of creation and expression takes place. A breathtaking result that involves drawing with Indian ink, oil painting, drying and filling the bottom.

After this little moment of escape and creativity, you can leave with your work of art as a souvenir. Local lunch in town. At the end of the afternoon, you will take a hike strolling through the districts of the island of Sor. Then go with Penda to collect your clothes. Return, dinner and overnight at your hotel.

 

 

Day 6: Saint-Louis – Sowène

Breakfast. Depart from your hotel for a new experience in a typical Senegalese family. Colors, smells and flavors will punctuate this day. This excursion will allow you to test your culinary qualities by being invited into the privacy of a family that will welcome you with open arms. They will teach you how to prepare our local products.

Departure from the hotel around 10:00 am in the company of your guide, arrival and welcome by the family, you will go to the market with a member of the family to buy the condiments necessary for the preparation of your lunch. Back home and start of the cooking workshop.

Family lunch and tasting of traditional tea, ataya. Cowrie divination session for those who are interested before your return to go and have a good tea or a good coffee at the Ndar Ndar Music Café, at Omar, while listening to good music. Departure for the Langue de Barbarie Park, in Sowène. Arrival and installation in your lodge. Dinner and overnight in your tent on stilts.

 

Day 7: Sowène

Breakfast. Depart for an approximately pirogue ride in the Langue de Barbarie National Park, an area inhabited by many species of birds, between the Senegal River and the Atlantic Ocean. Return to the lodge. Lunch by the pool. Free afternoon, relaxing afternoon accompanied by a Californian massage session, facing the river. Dinner and overnight.

 

 

Day 8: Sowène – Blaise Diagne International Airport

Breakfast. Free morning with a little surprise. Transfer to the airport for your return flight (according to your departure time). Boarding assistance. End of our services.
