Day 2: Dakar – Gorée – Lac Rose

Breakfast. City tour of Dakar, visiting the points of interest in this African capital before heading to the pier where the ferry will take you to Goree Island.

Lunch free (not included) at one of the nice restaurants on the island. Classified as a UNESCO World Heritage site, with Portuguese, Dutch, and French influences, Gorée became one of the main strongholds of the slave trade in the seventeenth century. Visit the island, the House of Slaves, where men, women, and children were gathered, sorted, and locked up awaiting their embarkation to the other side of the Atlantic. Gorée remains today a poignant witness to a past of suffering, serving as a lesson to the world to avoid repeating crimes against humanity.

Return to Dakar and continue to Lac Rose. Dinner and overnight at Chez Salim Hotel.

Day 3: Lac Rose – Lompoul

Breakfast. Visit to Lac Rose or Lac Retba on foot. This lake was born from a lagoon that was eventually closed off by dunes along the sea in the 15th century. It appears pink when the sun is directly overhead, and at dusk, the pink darkens to shades of mauve or violet. Besides its color, its significant salinity (300gr/liter) places it second only to the Dead Sea. Everything floats in it. This saline concentration enables women from surrounding villages to extract salt directly deposited at the lake’s bottom. You can have the opportunity to swim or even better, float in this extraordinary lake. Continuing to Lompoul.

Lunch free (not included) at a local restaurant and departure for Lompoul, Senegal’s most beautiful desert. Dunes reaching 40 to 50 meters in height stretch for kilometers. Then, return to the lodge. Camel ride on the dunes. Dinner and overnight in a bivouac.

Day 4: Lompoul – Sowène

Lunch free (not included). Relaxation by the pool or along the riverbank. Kayaks are available free of charge for a small tour on the Senegal River. Boarding a canoe for a visit to the La Langue de Barbarie Park, Senegal’s third ornithological reserve. Located between the river and the ocean, it hosts numerous bird species.
