This 8-day tour will take you through the Eastern region of Senegal, exploring unique nature amidst forests and mountains. You’ll encounter local ethnic groups with their ancient customs and embark on a safari to discover a rich wildlife. It’s a guaranteed change of scenery!
Program
Day 1: Airport – Ndayane
Welcome to Blaise Diagne International Airport. Transfer to your hotel in Ndayane.
Day 2: Ndayane – Kaolack – Wassadou
After breakfast, an early departure towards Eastern Senegal (approximately 7 hours by road), passing through Kaolack, a crossroads city and a major commercial center between Gambian traders and Senegalese merchants from the interior. Lunch will be provided en route. Arrival is expected late, and accommodation will be arranged at the camp located near the Niokolo Koba National Park. Dinner and overnight stay will be arranged.
Day 3: Wassadou – Niokolo Koba Park – Wassadou
Wake up to the sight of the Gambia River. You might have the chance to catch sight of hippos, crocodiles, and more. Enjoy breakfast before heading out for a full-day safari in the Niokolo Koba Park, the ultimate sanctuary for Senegalese wildlife. You’ll have the chance to spot monkeys, antelopes, warthogs, and more—perhaps even lions if luck is on your side. A picnic lunch will be arranged within the park. You’ll be accompanied by a guide who will provide insights into the park’s fauna and flora. Return to the camp in the evening for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 4: Wassadou – Kedougou
Breakfast and departure towards the eastern region of Senegal (5-hour drive)… Prepare to be immersed in a new environment. After crossing the Niokolo Koba Park, you’ll make a stop at Mako to observe the gold panners. Lunch break follows, and then you’ll continue the journey towards Kédougou. The landscapes of the Bassari, Peul, and Bedik peoples, situated in the Kédougou region, were listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2012. These peoples settled here between the 11th and 19th centuries, developing specific cultures while living in harmony with the natural environment. Check-in at the hotel, followed by dinner and overnight stay.
Breakfast and departure to Ibel, a former marble quarry. Then, you’ll climb Iwol (approximately 1 hour ascent) to discover a Bedik village with a stunning view.
The Bedik people constitute one of the smallest ethnic minorities in Senegal, preserving their traditions and ways of life. Known as the ‘people of the happy valley’ due to their numerous celebrations, the Bediks still wear vegetal masks during initiation rituals.
On the way back, you’ll have lunch in Bandafassi. You’ll have the opportunity to visit the village before returning to Kédougou. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.
Day 6: Kedougou – Dindefello – Kedougou
Breakfast and departure towards the Guinea border, heading to Dindéfello. Then, on foot, you’ll walk approximately 30 minutes through the forest to reach the stunning Dindéféllo waterfalls. Once there, the marvel seems to acknowledge your bravery, offering a unique spectacle perfect for relaxation, unwinding, and meditation… For the daring, there’s an opportunity to swim in the large pool! Picnic lunch. Later, you’ll head back to Kédougou and visit the Kédougou market. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.
Day 7: Kedougou – Tambacounda – Kaolack
Breakfast and departure from Kédougou for the return journey (approximately 9 hours on the road), passing through Tambacounda where lunch will be arranged. Continued journey to Kaolack. Check-in at your hotel. Dinner and overnight stay.
Day 8: Kaolack – Gorée Island – Airport
Breakfast and early transfer to Dakar, then boarding a small boat headed to Gorée Island, a historical heritage site and the starting point of the African slave trade in the 14th century.
Guided tour of the island followed by lunch at a restaurant. Return to Dakar by boat and transfer to the airport for your return flight. Assistance with boarding. End of our services.
