Description
Day
Departure in the morning from the hotel for a city tour of Dakar, with a visit to the various centers of interest of the capital: the Cathedral of African Souvenir with its architecture in Byzantine style, the presidential palace with its red guards, the square of Independence with its colonial style buildings that rival modern buildings, the train station and its typical spice market. Pass in front of the great mosque of Dakar, with its imposing minarets, which brings together thousands of worshipers every Friday. Visit the craft village of Soumbédioune and its various trades (basket makers, sculptors, weavers, jewelers …) and a gallery of sand paintings. Lunch.
You will then head to the pier to take the boat that will take you to the island of Gorée after 20 minutes of crossing. Gorée is an island steeped in history and marked by the sad slave trade. Visit the Fort d’Estrée which now houses the Historical Museum, visit the House of Slaves, walk on the cliff of the island called Castel where you can see the monument of the Gorée Almadies Memorial. Stroll through the charming alleys of the island, lined with houses dating back to the colonial era. Return to Dakar in the afternoon and continue to your hotel.
