Day 3: Lac Rose – Saint-Louis

Besides its color, its high salinity (300 gr / liter) places it in second position after the Dead Sea. Everything floats there. This saline concentration allows women from surrounding villages to extract the salt which settles at the bottom of the lake. It was the last stage of the Paris-Dakar Rally.

City of art and history which today occupies a prominent place in the Senegalese tourist environment, Saint-Louis is built on the sandy banks of the mouth of the Senegal river. The omnipresence of water is the essential characteristic of the site.

For several decades, life seems frozen there; the city lives on its former splendor. The walker will appreciate the beautiful buildings from the colonial period. Visit the market of Ndar and its many stalls, the interesting fishing village in the morning and in the evening when you see the huge multicolored boats crossing the “bar” on their return from fishing.

You will visit La Liane association, before lunch in a local restaurant.

Continue to the Lompoul Desert (around 3 hours drive), located in the Louga region, less than 10 km from the ocean. Its area is 18 km². The dunes can reach a height of 40 to 50 meters. The ocher, even red, sand is very fine. There is almost no vegetation.
